Geologists
CAREER DEFINITION:
A geologist studies Earth’s composition and how it has and will be formed. They research the Earth’s history and map its future.
DAY-TO-DAY LIFE:
Geologists work in offices, laboratories, and in the field. They go out in the field and do on-site work and collect samples. In their office or lab, thestudy samples with various technical equipment and use their computers to create 3-D modeling and written reports.
WELL-KNOWN FIGURES:
A well known geologist includes James Hutton. Hutton is often referred to as the “Father of Modern Geology,” as he was able to properly observe the different processes shaping the planet. He theorized that the Earth was formed through erosion and sedimentation, and that these processes were constantly taking place. This means that the Earth is ever changing, and doesn’t have a set landscape.
EDUCATION PATH:
If you are interested in becoming a geologist, many get their start in college with a Bachelor’s degree in geology. Some also choose to further their education for wider prospective opportunities by attaining a Master’s degree.
