Engineers (& All Its Types)

Civil:

Civil engineers help to design, plan, and assist in the construction of buildings and general infrastructure. They spend their days either in an office looking over blueprints or out at construction sites.

Mechanical/Electrical:

Mechanical and electrical engineers help to outline and build machines. This could include things as little as testing circuits to the large scale production of electric generators. Most mechanical/electrical engineers spend their time in offices, but they sometimes do on-site work to look at malfunctioning devices.

Robotic:

Robotic engineers develop and create robots which can be used for a multitude of tasks, mainly assisting in dangerous work. Robotic engineers build things such as automated ‘claw’ arms to be used in factories or ‘rovers’ which are automated vehicles. Robotic engineers split their time between the lab and their office.

Aerospace:

Aerospace engineers prototype and invent aircraft, such as planes, helicopters, spacecraft, satellites, and more. Most aerospace engineers spend their time in their office using digital modeling software to design their newest projects.

Chemical:

Chemical engineers implement their understanding of chemistry to yield chemical products, such as detergent, perfume, and medicine. They spend most of their time in the lab, with some office work.

Biomedical/Genetic:

Biomedical and genetic engineers implement their understanding of biology to produce medical devices or innovative medicine. Biomedical engineers typically focus on creating software or new machines to be used in hospitals by medical professionals, while genetic engineers research genetics to reshape modern medicine with new treatments. Both spend most of their time in labs or research facilities.

Education Path:

Engineers in general need to earn a Bachelor’s degree in the specific field they wish to enter. Most universities offer a “School of Engineering,” which applicants can apply to directly. Some engineers, mainly those in the sciences, choose to further their education with a Master’s degree or PhD in order to open more job opportunities or run their own labs.
